Zirmerhof Hotel & Residence – the hiker’s choice

Why is a holiday at the Zirmerhof so special in every season? In spring, when ski season is still in full swing in many parts of South Tyrol, guests of the Zirmerhof can already take advantage of the warmer temperatures and admire the Mediterranean vegetation. Just like in autumn, when the entire region prepares for the imminent ski season and we enjoy the warm autumn sun while hiking in Merano and environs. Nestled on a green hill near the Texelgruppe Nature Park, the Zirmerhof is the perfect choice for hikers seeking to spend an active holiday in South Tyrol.

As members of the Vitalpina Hotels association, we strive to make your holiday a regenerating experience.

Guests of our hotel or residence have the chance to participate in our three weekly guided hikes or mountain tours. In the period from May to October we also organise an additional summit hike with a qualified mountain guide. Spring hikes in Merano and Environs

Spring comes early in the area of Merano, and it is always a spectacle worth seeing. While other parts of South Tyrol are still wrapped in their wintry white, the spa town and its surroundings are already enjoying warm sun and mild temperatures, making it the perfect destination for an early-season hiking holiday. A variety of hiking and walking routes lie right on the Zirmerhof doorstep, but if you are visiting us in spring we especially recommend alpine pastures and valley routes, like the paths that run along the Waale (ancient irrigation channels), cross meadows and woodland, or lead to the area’s many ancient castles and fortresses.

Summer trekking in Merano and Environs

If you are not afraid of heights, come visit us in summer – from May till October, we organise high mountain excursions guided by expert alpine guides. Summer is also the perfect season to brave the spectacular via ferratas the South Tyrolean mountains have to offer, as well as numerous free climbing routes. Our resident guides recommend to start your summer pursuits in the early morning and to avoid hiking or climbing in the hot midday sun. However, you can always choose one of the trails winding through shady woods and enjoy a lungful of fresh mountain air at high altitudes!

Autumn trekking and indulgence

In autumn, the meadows and forests around the Zirmerhof come alight with an explosion of bright, warm hues – a natural spectacle that never fails to impress. After the hot summer days, the mercury drops back to milder temperatures that are ideal for hiking. However, if you are craving to tackle the most challenging high-mountain tours during this season, we recommend consulting with a qualified and experienced mountain guide as weather conditions at high altitudes must be reckoned with. Our recommended autumnal hikes include the Waale trails, the Merano High Mountain Trail and the Kastanienweg (Chestnut trail), where you can crown your trek with a tasty Törggelen experience. Our absolute favourite? A hike on the 700-year old Kuenser Waalweg trail.

Winter treks in Merano and Environs

Winter season doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go hiking or stay at the Zirmerhof. While it’s true that the hotel will be closed, the holiday apartments of the Zirmerhof Residence and Freiburgerhof farm are open in winter as well! The wide forest paths in the vicinity of our hotel, for example, are easily accessible even in winter… all it takes is good footwear. As an alternative, you can lace up a pair of snowshoes and explore the snowy expanses. Please remember to wrap up warmly and use waterproof footwear!

Please be aware that pets are not allowed at our hotel.
